In 2024, I underwent a total of five surgeries performed by Dr. Ghods and his wonderful team. I was diagnosed with lipedema stage III in both my arms and legs. From the very first consultation to the follow-up care, I always felt safe, supported, and in excellent hands.
The atmosphere in the clinic is both warm and highly professional. Dr. Ghods takes the time to explain everything in detail, works with great precision, and truly listens to his patients. The entire team is incredibly kind, dedicated, and empathetic.
All of my surgeries went smoothly and without complications. My symptoms have improved significantly, and I have regained a great deal of quality of life. It has now been around ten months since my last operation, and I am looking forward to the next planned surgery, which will be followed by skin tightening procedures.
I’m deeply grateful that I chose Dr. Ghods and his team – you are truly in the best hands, both medically and personally.
Hello
I am hoping you can help with a query regarding the costs, like you i will need 4 possibly 5 surgeries on my arms and legs however I am from the UK so do not get any financial help. Are you able to disclose roughly what the basic cost of one surgery will cost. I know everyone is different but a basic costly would be great
I was diagnosed with Lipoedema in March 2021 and like many other people I felt alone not knowing where to turn to for help. I never heard of the condition before, I really hated my body. Lucky, I made some great friends who also have this condition and one of them recommended Dr Ghods. In January 2023, I underwent my first surgery. Although I was extremely nervous, the experience at the hospital in Bad Belzig quickly put me at ease. The quality of care I received there was outstanding, and it made a meaningful difference in my journey toward better health and confidence.
I have never encountered a doctor quite like Dr. Ghods. He is an exceptionally compassionate and empathetic individual, with a deep understanding of Lipoedema and the physical and emotional challenges that come with it. I vividly recall a moment before my first surgery when he sat beside me, reassured me that this condition was not my fault, and promised that he would take good care of me. His words and presence provided immense comfort during a very vulnerable time, and they reflect the high level of care and humanity he brings to his practice.
Dr. Amier was also an invaluable source of support at the beginning of my journey. He consistently responded to any questions or concerns I had with clarity and care. His attentiveness and professionalism ensured that I felt well looked after throughout the initial stages of my treatment. To date, I have undergone eight surgeries, and throughout this journey, I have been fortunate to receive care from Dr. Ghods’ outstanding team. I am deeply grateful to have been treated by Dr. Giw, Dr. Adrian, Dr. Stephanie, Dr. Selina, Dr. Theresa, Dr. Sandra, and Dr. Sebastian. Each of them has played an important role in my treatment and recovery, and their collective expertise and dedication have made a significant difference in my experience.
I am also extremely grateful to the anaesthesiology team in Bad Belzig for their exceptional care and professionalism throughout my surgical journey. In particular, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Norina, who has consistently shown remarkable dedication, giving me so much of her time, attention, and reassurance during each of my stays. Her calm and compassionate approach made a significant difference in helping me feel safe and supported before and after each procedure. The entire anaesthetist team has played a vital role in ensuring my comfort and well-being.
Equally, the nursing staff have provided exceptional support. Their professionalism, kindness, and attentiveness created a comforting environment during each phase of my recovery. Their presence and care were a constant source of reassurance. I would also like to acknowledge the nutritionist team, whose guidance and support have been invaluable.
I have found the administrative staff to be exceptionally efficient and responsive. Their professionalism and timely communication have been greatly appreciated and have contributed significantly to the smooth coordination of my care.

Having been diagnosed with lipoedema in Ireland in 2022, I thought surgery would be impossible. Thankfully Ireland opened up the Cross Border Directive to patients with Lipoedema and suddenly surgery was on the cards! I knew from very early on I wanted to go with Dr Ghods. I have hEDS, POTs and MCAS plus plenty more, so I knew I was in the safest of hands with his expertise and facilities. As expected with hEDS, I’m also neurodivergent which was taken into consideration for my pain management in my most recent surgery and made an enormous difference for me.
Dr Ghods is an excellent surgeon with an excellent team. When you arrive you are welcomed and get the chance to spend time with other patients and often Dr Ghods himself in a cooking class with the lovely nutritionist, Juliane. Thanks to her expertise, Juliane can help figure out a lot of components to the dietary side of managing lipoedema. Bringing us into the experience of surgery this way shows how much this team has put into the patient experience.
Thanks to Dr Amier, they have also streamlined the process of reimbursement for the Cross Border Directive for Irish patients, initiating direct communication with the HSE to ensure the smoothest process for everyone involved. Sometimes the paperwork can be more stressful than the surgery itself!
My first surgery was a learning curve for me, but I knew I could tell the team about my experiences and be listened to, so my second surgery was much smoother. I cannot compliment the anesthesia team enough both with the pre-op care I received and the post op pain management – the parts I was aware of.
As mentioned, Dr Amier along with Dr Giw, Dr Theresa and Dr Sandra were central to my care over the last two surgeries. These are just the doctors I met while awake, I’m sure there were more involved in my surgery I also owe my thanks to. Their care is always a reminder of what great care can be, especially within a great team. There are many unknowns and new discoveries with these surgeries as more and more people go through the process. Each doctor is always happy to support and problem solve.
The nursing staff are absolutely wonderful. Due to anemia, I struggled a lot with the recovery on my second which left me feeling very vulnerable and exhausted. They took such good care of me, regardless of the language barrier, something I’ll never forget.
The lovely Katharina in the office for international patients as well as Anika are always a pleasure to communicate with. I’m never hesitant to email or reach out for whatever I need thanks to their warmth.
The MLD therapists are also fantastic at what they do, from helping with walking to clearing out your system for some relief. There is a pneumatic pump available for circumstances where getting compression off isn’t ideal, which takes a lot of pressure off having a more accessible option available. They truly make the difference when trying to make it home on schedule, something I experienced first hand this time.
These surgeries are not easy, but with a team like this it can be an incredibly encouraging experience as well as life changing!
Hi Naomi
I am from Ireland too and was looking into the cross border and I cannot get information on this. Would love to find out more 😊
I’m from Denmark, 32 years old, I’ve had 2 surgeries with Dr. Ghods and his team. First one was front of legs, 6,5 litres removed. Second one was back of legs, 5,5 litres removed.
Due to an unknown bleeding/coagulation disorder, I had a severe blood loss following my first surgery. I COULD NOT have been in better hands!! It’s over a year ago now, and I am still in awe about how the ENTIRE team helped me through. The care from Dr. Ghods’ team is absolutely World class. Due to his clinic being in an actual hospital, they had immediate access to blood (I ended up getting blood transfusion), and round the clock nursing care. They never hesitated to throw everything at me for my recovery while I was feeling weak from blood loss: blood transfusions, Vitamin C infusions, iron infusions, even the associated dietician came in with homemade turmeric shots. They took extra blood tests, extra blood pressure tests, they did everything to monitor my condition and help me heal up.
Dr. Amier in particular took great measures to see to my recovery. He stayed late after his shift ended, to oversee my blood transfusions to make sure they went well. During both my first and second surgery he went above and beyond to make me feel very safe and taken care of. He also has a very calming presence, which made me feel at easy and safe in a situation that otherwise made me scared.
The nursing staff are excellent and very caring. Most of them know English, and those that don’t use Google Translate. I felt very well taken care of.
The doctors are fantastic, and they took every measure to make sure my second surgery went much better. They adjusted several things to account for my bleeding issue, including keeping me in the wake-up area for much longer, with constant supervision. As stated before, Dr. Amier goes above and beyond for his patients and made me feel very safe and taken care of, and the same goes for their excellent female anaesthesiologist (unfortunately in the tumult I never got her name!). She’s a very skilled doctor and anaesthesiologist, and she made me feel COMPLETELY at ease, she is just one of those doctors that calms you right down when you’re nervous. The night before my surgery she taught me a self-soothing trick to calm my nerves. She also came in, on her day off, to quickly check up on me after surgery.
Dr. Ghods himself is of course fantastic and a great surgeon. You can tell he cares, and he lights up when you tell him how much better you feel after healing from surgery. When I went to have new compression made back home after surgery, the employee told me that I must have had a very good surgeon, because my measurements on each leg were identical and VERY symmetrical. I think this attests to how good Dr. Ghods is.
So all in all, I recommend Dr. Ghods for lipoedema surgery; of course he has extensive knowledge and is a pioneer within his work, but I also want to underline HOW much it means to have such good staff for your surgery. The ENTIRE team is fantastic, and any small or big issue will be taken care of immediately. I felt so safe, even with my blood loss, I was never truly frightened because they handled everything to perfection, they are ready for any issue. This is the benefit of having the surgery at a large hospital. I would personally never dare choose a clinic where they send you home the day after. So many issues can arise, and having nurses around the clock to care for you in the following days is invaluable.
So grateful for the excellent care from the entire team in Bad Belzig.
I was diagnosed with Lipedema about three years ago. It had progressed to the point that I
rarely left my house and was in pain constantly. I had my first surgery with Dr. Ghods in August of 2024 and had 12 L removed.
About four weeks post-op I started to have energy like I haven’t had in years. For approximately the past two years, I couldn’t climb stairs, sit in a normal chair, put on my own socks, sleep in bed (I slept and sat in a lift-chair), walk without using a cane, drive, etc.
Now, I am able to bend down and put on my own socks, go up and down stairs while holding onto a railing on both sides, get up from a normal chair without assistance, sleep in bed for several hours (and recently all night!), walk short distances without a cane, and drive places that don’t require me to get on the highway. Two weeks ago I went back to work part-time and last week, I started back full-time.
My MLD therapist and physical therapists are amazed at how well I am doing! I have my second surgery scheduled for April 2025. From the initial consultation to leaving to return to the US after surgery, Dr. Ghods, Dr. Sweis, and EVERY member of his staff were exceptional. The nurses and MLD therapists are the most caring people I have ever met. I am forever grateful to Dr. Ghods and his staff for helping me get my life back – and I know this is only the beginning! I would highly recommend them.
My first surgery with Dr Ghods and his team in September of this year (2024) could not have been a better experience. The welcome was warm and the staff friendly, caring and very knowledgeable. The cookery class on my day of arrival was a particularly nice touch, helping us meet others with the same condition and make some wonderful food! My partner was able to stay in one of the hospital’s guest rooms so he was always on hand to help me and keep me company too which made things so much easier. The surgery itself went fantastically as far as I can tell (it was only 2 weeks ago so I can’t see the full results yet due to swelling etc) and I was told afterwards that they were able to remove the maximum amount that could be taken safely which was a huge relief! So far, my recovery seems to be going well and I’ve had no real problems beyond what you’d expect from a surgery of this type (swelling and a bit of stiffness but virtually no pain or complications). I am very much hoping to go back for further surgery as soon as I can get another appointment!
DR. GHODS AND HIS TEAM ARE EXCEPTIONAL!!!
I was diagnosed with Lipidema by a doctor in Canada who later denied having done so! I continued to explore it further and received the diagnosis by a US surgeon.
My struggle has been a long and intense one. Having been misdiagnosed with lymphedema and morbid obesity, I endured years of needless pain and trauma! Almost 10 years!!!
I underwent 5 years of Lymphedema treatment at the hospital because, in Canada, they do not even teach about LIPEDEMA in any Canadian Medical School!!! They are oblivious to this serious life-threatening condition that has robbed me joy and quality of life!
I underwent the dangerous and high-risk gastric-sleeve bariatric surgery in Canada! And additionally (3) three Lipidema liposuction surgeries (under partial sedation) in a clinic in Beverly Hills, California, USA!!!Each one was a nightmare and I could have died!!! The follow up was to see me and my wounds via FaceTime!!!
The US surgeon did not pay attention to me as a patient and my health and safety were jeopardized after each operation! I was sent back, immediately following a 3 hour surgery, at my expense, to recover in my hotel room which was clearly not equipped with any medical facilities or supervision or medications!!! My incisions were seeping fluid and blood all over the taxi and throughout the hotel lobby and in the room. Needless to say, the bedsheets were extremely soaked! My poor Mother was left to care for me in all this trauma as she was the only caregiver!
There were no medications given to prevent infection nor were there blood pressure monitors or oxygen level monitors nor heart pulse rate monitors. The pain was excruciating and no ice packs available!!! I underwent 3 intense surgeries like this of low volume removal in ONE MONTH!!! The hotel charged us extra for cleaning and replacing the sheets too!!!
DR. GHODS AND THE PROFESSIONAL LIPIDEMA TEAM IN GERMANY are to be commended for their demonstrated commitment and excellence in my Lipidema liposuction surgery care and treatment!!!
From the initial free video consult, it was apparent that my health and safety were of the utmost concern and priority to them! They thoroughly examined my medical history and records and would not proceed until all medical tests were completed and fulfilled. In fact, my surgery was postponed until such requirements had been met for my safety!
Canada is so behind in even the recognition of Lipidema!!! I even met and spoke with The Provincial Government Minister of Health in our Canadian province and provided all medical documentation in the hopes of financial cost assistance and recovery! I endured a lengthy waiting period before he replied back to say there was nothing that he could do for me in Canada or abroad (out of country expenses)! I was left on my own to fight my battle with this horrible disease that has robbed me of any quality and enjoyment of life. I am rendered as a morbidly obese person despite a severe condition that is resistant to diet and exercise!
Dr. Ghods and his wonderful team are fully aware and committed to restoring my quality of life and enlightening me further for maintenance and preventative measures! They ensure a top nutritionist spend time with you and nurses and medical staff, including housekeeping, and Dr.,Ghods himself, and the other surgeons, attend daily to your needs keeping you under close observation!!! I have been seen each and every day by Dr. Ghods himself and the whole team and treated with the utmost respect and dignity with all questions answered! A patient is never discharged unless all concerns medical or otherwise are attended to!
They do not rush you out of the hospital. THEY CARE ABOUT YOU!!! The patient’s health comes before the fees.
All equipment is state of the art and all beds are fully automatic and the hospital is kept at a reasonable temperature!
Vitals are closely monitored and checked thoroughly several times throughout the day. If there are any concerns, they are immediately sent to the surgeon which is available 24/7! This includes weekends with bedside in person visits!!!
As well, the food is phenomenal with 2 Michelin star chefs on staff!!!
In my humble opinion, DR. GHODS AND THE EXCEPTIONAL WORLD LEADING-EDGE SURGICAL TEAM, in Germany, are beyond outstanding and humble and extremely caring and compassionate!!! I have never experienced such phenomenally fabulous treatment in Canada nor the United States! They are all conscientious about the safety and care and well-being of their patients!!!
I speak from experience and multiple surgeries (non-Lipidema and lipidema).
I highly recommend them. Dr. Ghods and his team are the best!!!
Being diagnosed with Stage1/2 lipoedema at 24 years old was overwhelming and scary for me. When I discussed with my doctor that liposuction on the front and back of my legs was the best option he immediately recommended Dr Ghods.
Dr Ghods, Dr Amier and Dr Selena were amazing. I was concerned about the aesthetic results of the experience, the shape of my legs after surgery and the resulting scars. Dr Ghods was very caring and took my concerns seriously from the beginning. He also did the front and back in one surgery which was incredible.
The surgery was of course difficult and recovery was intense and emotional. But the team took great care of me and I managed the 7 hour flight home perfectly fine after 9 days of recovery.
The team consistently checked in with me after I got home and were always on hand to answer any questions or concerns.
I am extremely happy with the results and have never felt more confident with my legs in my whole life than I do now. It has truly been a life changing experience.
After doing extensive research on doctors specialising in the field of Lipoedema, I decided on Dr Mojtaba Ghods. After making my decision, I realised I’d actually read and was thoroughly impressed by a research paper he was apart of long before I’d even decided to have surgery, which made me even more confident about my choice.
I had my first surgery on the 29/05/2024 receiving high volume liposuction for Lipoedema on my inner thighs to my knees. Everyone on the team, from Dr Ghods himself to Doctors Giw, Dr Teresa, Dr Salena and the rest of the medical team made me feel like I was their main priority. Having the operation in a hospital with 24/7 care is the optimal environment for this type of surgery, allowing for round the clock monitoring and 5 days in patient recovery. The care and attention I received was second to none and the hospital staff were simply amazing.
Dr Ghods has an outstanding team that he works with, which starts with his international liaison consultant Latitia, in the clinic’s office.
I recommend Dr Ghods and his team for the surgical treatment of Lipoedema and will be returning, from Australia for future treatments/ surgeries.
I had my first surgery with Dr Ghods and his team in October 2023, second one is in April. I had an excellent experience, support care, great recovery. High volume removal from front of legs. 5 day admission in the hospital to support recovery. The skill and knowledge of the Drs and Nursing Team was excellent.
