Dr. Robert Beulink is one of New Zealand’s most experienced appearance medicine specialists, having pioneered the field since 1992, with extensive dedicated experience treating Lipedema through tumescent liposuction.
- Graduate of the Otago University School of Medicine, practicing in Christchurch since 1986, with a second clinic established in Auckland in 2011.
- One of New Zealand’s first practitioners in cosmetic and appearance medicine, instrumental in establishing the field locally.
- Has performed tumescent liposuction using the small blunt-nose cannula technique for over 27 years, a method he considers particularly suited to Lipedema due to its lymphatic-sparing properties.
- Regards Lipedema liposuction as the most technically demanding form of liposuction he performs, given the fibrotic, resistant nature of Lipedema tissue compared to normal fat.
- Requires pre-treatment ultrasound assessment of the legs as standard practice, both to gauge tissue fibrosis and to screen for varicose veins, which he’s found present in around half of his Lipedema patients.
- Spent time in plastic surgery, burns, and microsurgery units across New Zealand and Australia.
- Founding member of the Appearance Medicine Society of Australasia (now the NZ Society of Cosmetic Medicine) and former founding member of the Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery.
