I first met Dr Iakovos Georgiou in 2019 on a zoom call and quickly realised that he was a surgeon that I could trust as his commitment to patient-centred care is truly commendable! However, due to Covid and health issues I was unable to have surgery.
Finally, almost four years later on 16 April at the age of 66 I had my first Lipedema surgery with Dr Iakovos Georgiou at the German Medical Institute in Limassol Cyprus. Dr Georgiou is a truly exceptional and gifted surgeon who puts his patients first and foremost. Dr Georgios’ commitment to patient-centred care is truly remarkable and something I have never seen before!
I am extremely grateful for the exceptional care I received from Dr Georgiou and his entire team who like him go above and beyond with their kindness and compassion. Dr Georgios’ expertise, professionalism, and compassion was instrumental in my successful surgical outcome.

I have been following Dr Georgiou and his work for a number of years now, and recently had the privilege of being under his care for lipoedema reduction surgery. Dr Georgiou performed VASER/PAL liposuction using superwet technique to the front side of both legs, under general anaesthesia removing 13.2 liters and then second surgery was same technique to backs of legs removing 11.5 liters.
Dr Georgiou is a truly exceptional surgeon. His surgical and professional excellence, skill and care, coupled with his dedication to patient needs set him apart. He is genuine, honest, and has the kindest of souls. He is also an excellent communicator, with the most compassionate and empathetic approach, making the entire experience reassuring. But more than that, lipoedema care in the UK has always been a challenge due to the medical community having a lack of knowledge in this condition, and without a clear approach to medical care and support. So when you meet a surgeon like Dr Georgiou, well it is lifechanging. To be heard, understood, and fully supported throughout the prep, the surgery, and just as importantly post-surgery was amazing! Words really don’t seem enough but if you are considering lipoedema reduction surgery then I highly recommend Dr Georgiou and the wider team at GMI for anyone seeking excellent medical care with a truly human touch.
